I plan to use curtain rods placed wider than my actual windows and hang drapes that can be pulled wider than the window during the day and closed for privacy.

I did the same as sallen 2008. We replaced all the windows in our home with bigger Marvins. LR & Foyer windows are approx 80 wide and go from almost ceiling to floor. DH didn't want to cover the view - we live in a wooded area with lots of wildlife. So, I just ordered longer decorative rods and hung the pinch pleats from rings - using the curtain pins rather than hanging from the clip part of the ring. The curtains frame the window, but in no way obstruct any views.
