help visualizing back splash--Boxerpups?

I am going Monday to pick out a countertop slab and need a little help with the back splash. Here's the deal. I would classify the style of the kitchen as contemporary, sleek, semi-commercial (pot rack, pre-rinse faucet, stainless appliances, 36" Bluestar). The kitchen has lots of natural light from the East and South. It has java lower cabinets and frosted glass/aluminum uppers. The walls are painted a light grey that tends toward blue (it's called reflecting pool). The counter top will be a medium tone warm grey with a hint of green and blue. It is Jerusalem Stone Blue (I know the issues, but we are pretty set on it).

I am debating whether to get a 4" back spalsh of the same material as the counter, which would allow more of the paint color to show, which we are really fond of. Or we could apply a tile back splash in Daltile white (like the kind they have at HD) or a tile that matches the counter, which might be a little pricy. I tend to like the look of a continuous color across the countertop and up the back splash. I think we will put a stainless back splash behind the range.

I would include pictures, but the kitchen is far enough away from being finished that I am having trouble visualizing the options myself while standing in it.

I have been looking for inspiration pictures, but really have not been very successful--and my husband is tired of me haunting the internet. If anyone has any helpful images, I would be so grateful. This is such a great board, and I read it avidly and have learned a great deal. As soon as we are finished, I plan to post our experiences and recommendations.

    Your kitchen% sounds exciting.

I am not a fan of 4inch b-splashes, but have seen some
pretty ones. I say find a tile to match the color you
love or get a clear glass type tile that can show the
wall colo.r you love peeking through. That way you can
have the BS go all the way up. There are even stainless
steel tiles mini ones you could mix with the glass
that would look nice with the SS backsplash for your
    range.

Wow--great ideas! Thank you so much. The Ikea one comes really close, and so does the Bardon cabinets picture, and several others do too. I'll check out the Donelooking site.

These pictures make me think I should forgo the 4" back splash. Since we love the color (it isn't actually quite that intense--it is Glidden, not SW), maybe we should just stick with that and add tile if we can find the right one. Maybe we should just add a stainless back splash behind the sink for now.

clarep_dc - your kitchen sounds fantastic, please post pictures!

Boxerpups - is the tile in the first picture you posted the same as the second to last picture? I really love it, but can't find that blog site. I'd love to investigate that tile for our backsplash. Thanks!

    Hi Sochi,

Yes, the tile in the first pic is the same but I do not
have the link. I only have the link the the tile.
Everytime I try to link to contentcompendium blog a
new html link shows up. My DH tells me this is a new trend
to have randomly assigned URL links to protect the designers.
I will keep trying to search, I have had luck before
    going through my history.

    Clarep_dc,
You will discover there are many on GW who wait to do
their BS. Some even a year. If you have a scrubble paint I
would stay with your paint until you find the tile or bs
that you love. It gives you time to search and enjoy
    the process.
Tile is one of those long term items that is hard
    to change later.

I think you are wise to forgo the 4 inch bs. You will
see that the trend is to go without. But do it because
you like the look not to be trendy as trends come and go.
