Sealing the bottom ?of a Redwood 'roof'deck

User

We just cleaned a newish -1 year old redwood deck that we constructed as pallets (a little more than a year ago) to set on our white torch-down asphalt roof. It's been weathering since then.

We bought the 5 gals of TWP stain. The question is - Do I, or should I stain the bottom of the pallets. Yes, I can flip them over as each one is about 7ftx 4ft.

The deck material is 2x6, and the sleepers are 1x6 planks, also Redwood...

The 'flat' roof has a slope and drains to a scupper. I live in the Bay Area (Berkeley) so it's mild most the year, with rain in the late Winter and Spring.

What say the experts and others?

I'm also tempted to apply this stuff with a roller, maybe 1/2" nap- any suggestions on the application method?

Next year we'll do the other roof and probably use Ipe.
