cost of cedar shingle installation

Hi,

I posted this in the home repair forum also. I am looking for a ball park figure for cedar shingle installation ; I live in Ma. We had one estimate that nearly floored me, given it was for a very small area. Is there a formula to use to figure price, i.e. square ft. or some such ?

$400 a square would be ballpark for labor alone for an easy job. Replacing and reweaving as a patch could double that. That doesn't include materials. Prices on that will vary based on grade used, location in relation to a mill, and whether or not fireproofing is required.

How much would one square cover? The area I'm talking about is a triangle ( top 1/3 of side of house , bottom is clapboards) about 2ft. wide at the top and 15 ft wide at the bottom. Also, there are two sides of a tower that are 5x9 ft., approximately. The quote we were given was 6500.00.
I almost died. We built our house 30 years ago and I think we sided the entire house for much less.
