Anybody else have to 'burp' their Insinkerator?

I installed an Insinkerator Compact in May. It works great, is quiet and effective. The rubber flange is the problem. I have a Grohe K4, and it flows directly into the drain. Which is good. Except that it splashes back from the rubber flange onto me. Not good. So, I tend to move the faucet so it doesn't flow directly into the drain. Except when I do that, the water stays in the sink, and doesn't drain unless I run the GD or "burp" (push down)the flange. It's also a problem emptying a pan of hot water or a full dishpan.

I've repositioned the flange, I've made sure that it is in the right way, I've stretched it out, but no success. Anybody else experience this with the IS rubber flange? Any solutions?
