I can only offer anecdotal info. I do not recall mine ever getting more color after I stopped the photoperiod treatment.

Hey Josh, it is a lot of work...covering and uncovering every day lol!
So far I've been able to stick to it, Might as well keep going I'm almost there :o)

As long as your plant has been receiving less than twelve hours of sun per day for an uninterrupted ten weeks ( or so), the switch has been flipped. And the dark treatment has to be really black.

Typically, the short day treatments should begin in early October and continue until the end of November or early December.

How our poinsettias perform also depends upon how they've been grown all year. They do like full sun when not hiding in total, uninterrupted dark, fast draining potting mix, good nutritional care in order to put on a great show for us.

Don't forget, too, that the plants we purchase from the store have all been treated with growth regulators to make them full and compact with large terminal bracts. They've been under a very strict regimen since they began their lives as small cuttings months earlier.

We had a poinsettia at work a few years ago, and my boss put it in the job restroom every day untill next morning. She did this for a few weeks, and it got red colored bracts.

Pelargonium, its definitely much easier if mine were in a pot...I can place itin a corner of the yard where it gets sun during the day and dark at night...much harder with one planted inground...wish me luck!!

I'll post "if" it colors up more in a few weeks...
