While we did not handle the flooring for the project, it is random width reclaimed flooring. Depending on your area, there are often several sources for items such as these. Some reclaimed facilities only process flooring, others do timbers and flooring. But, it is probably best to get something close to you so you can look at the product. Reclaimed is a great product but definitely fluctuates in quality and specifications. You'd want to be able to point to something and be sure they knew that is the sort of product you wanted.

Also, depending on the building specialist you are working with, be sure you ask to see the range of what you'll be expecting. The market is such that the boards may be there one day and not the next week, so it is something you usually have to decide rather quickly.

This flooring is a mix between material salvaged from the original barn, and a nearby barn that was being torn down. Historically barn floors were a structural element, and therefore the floor boards we used varied in thickness from 1 1/2" to 2". In a residential application we first laid down a plywood subfloor and stained it dark brown so it would not be visible since the old barn floor was butt-jointed and had occasional knot holes. The flooring was nailed down with 16D 3 1/2" cut nails. We used a minwax product on the floor as a finish to keep the sheen down. If you have more specific questions, I'm happy to try and answer them.
