Possible vanity from dresser - your thoughts?

Hi everybody, I am thinking of purchasing this buffet to use as a vanity in our bathroom.

What do you think? I think it looks great, and it will fit our space perfectly for width and depth.

For height, we might need to cut it down about 2". It is 38" tall, that is tall. We could cut it to 36-ish.

There is a concern for storage. Not much. This is for our main bathroom.

We could try to add a shelf on the bottom for baskets.

What do you think?? It's antique. I love the look.

I would likely want to put a .25" corain top on it to not ruin the wood and have fewer worries, making it flush with the edge (little to no overhang).

Do you think that this is going to be shabby/ugly when we sell many years from now? We are settled and will likely live in our home 10+ years, maybe longer.

How would you accessorize? I am thinking of doing planks on the walls and a very basic shower, letting this be the centerpiece, some cool light fixture and a mirror.

I think it's a beautiful piece and if you love it, you should use it. And if you love it that much I would certainly work around it to make the bathroom like you want it. I just hate to see you have to cut it down though. Are you sure it's too high?

I think it's really pretty. I wouldn't use it just because I love it. Does it work with your home's style?

I can't see putting Corian on that. It needs a natural material.

Love that piece! I am a full time show antique/rusty dealer and we have sold many buffets/dressers/wash stands for repurposed vanities. It is definitely in right now in our area. If you are planning to stay in your home and you love it, go for it. 10 years from now when u get ready to sell you can change it out if it's not in style then. I wouldn't change the top though. Just make sure you put a satin sealer on it and you should be good to go!

That is certainly a show piece! As a friend told me, who renovated 10 years ago based on the idea of selling, "renovate based on what you love not what others will buy". She is still in her same house years later and made choices then for buyers, not herself and she regrets it.
