Where to position LED pot lights above a counter without any uppers

Where do I position LED pot lights over a counter that does not have any upper cabinets? I have just started a kitchen reno and will have two runs of counter along a wall which contains 2 windows. The counters will be walnut. The first counter run will be 118" with a 84" window. The second run will house the kitchen sink and is 84" with a 42" window. My 30" range will be positioned between these 2 runs and will have a range hood above it with 2 halogen lights. My counters will be deeper than standard at 27 1/2". Most threads I've read state that pot or canned lighting should be positioned at the edge of the counter but that's to account for the upper cabinets. With the windows and no upper cabinets I can't imagine thats where I should place mine. Anyone?

I'd still say above the counter's edge. Further away and you'd have your shadow on the counter surface when standing there, and I don't see any benefit in putting them closer to the windows.

If the space above the ceiling board permits, you could have cans closer to the wall.

Since you don't have any upper cabinets, have you considered long shelves with built in long led lights underneath? I don't have upper cabinets either, but on each side of the stove, I have one long open shelf. I spent quite a bit of money on two long led lights that I installed under each shelf. These give great workspace lighting. I also installed two swing arm lamps over the shelves that can easily swing and pivot in many directions.
