the overall furniture arragnement looks fine. The TV is hung a bit too high, and perhaps try adding some accessories to personalize the room.

Pretty pup! Love German Shepards. Start by adding some texture and layers. Touches of rattan, wood and glass.

If you added a lot of art work on the wall it would add interest...the best thing would be some built-ins made along the tv wall...holding books, nick nacks, etc. it would add dimension and and interest.

Thanks for the ideas so far! A few more questions, if I was to do flooring, dark or light? As you can see by the pictures I have a big German Shepherd & I like the idea of darker wood floors but I'm not sure how practical that will be with possible scratches from his nails. Also any ideas on how to handle the fireplace? The wall color is before it was painted from this photo. I don't like the light color of it. Any ideas on how to give it a makeover too?

If you do the floors in a low shine finish you will be happier. We did my sons floors in a water base poly- they are maple- did them dark walnut and there are zero scratches on them 2 years later, they have a dog, and two children they use the hallway as a race track for their toys. But dark will show dog hair. You can darken the finish on the FP easy enough to match or at least be close.

I would like to suggest to have the desk and chair to go on the opposite wall next to the TV. Bring the chair and ottoman at an angle in that corner and have a nice table to go between the chair and sofa. Throw some colorful throw pillows with some texture. And I would add that Tic Tac Toe bookshelf on the other side of the TV. And have a chair by the fire place and the bookshelf. A separate corner by the FP. I would lighten up the FP and have the photographs and such on the bookshelf so they are displayed where they get due attention. I would move that vase to either side. A nice floor lamp by that chair next to the FP and one between the chair and sofa. Why not give the FP a dark stain. That would look nice against the medium stain floors.

As for the floors go with a medium stain in maple, wouldn't show the hair very easily. You can probably think about laminate if you are afraid of scratches.

Definitely add some artwork over the sofa, above the suggested desk area.
