Pros on Houzz - You need to include keywords with your photos!!!

I attended a Houzz meet-up event yesterday and want to share some info presented by Liza Hausman, Vice President, Community at Houzz. When she asked how many attendees uploaded photos of their work to Houzz everyone raised a hand. When she asked how many added keywords to their images, there were just a smattering of hands.

The right keywords are an essential aspect of getting found on Houzz. Just loading images is only going halfway and you will be missing traffic to your profile without keywords.

It's easy - use these four methods to develop good keywords:
1. Look at the content in your images and call out those items as keywords. They don't have to be single words - they can be phrases. Put quote marks around compound words/phrases. Examples: "upholstered furniture", "bead-board paneling", "modern kitchen", "landscape lighting".
2. Look at the questions people are asking in the Design Dilemmas and derive your keywords from those searches. Example: If you see questions like "What are the best appliances for an outdoor kitchen", you can use that phrase verbatim as a long-tail keyword.
3. Go to your website (or ask your site administrator) to see what are the search terms and meta tags that drive traffic to your website. Use those meta tags as keywords here on Houzz.
4. Go to Google and find out what the most popular search terms are for your industry/products and use those as your keywords - as long as they are relevant to your work.
