Replacing OLD kitchen cabinet doors & drawers

We just recently bought a partially remodeled home and have a super tight budget. The kitchen is original--cabinets, flooring and all. Does anyone have any ideas about how we can modernize this old kitchen? Is it possible to replace drawers and cabinet fronts with those we might find at a cabinet store? We are on a budget, so we'd love suggestions for shops.

Initially, I was maybe thinking or repainting and taking off cabinet doors, but am not sure if I'd be satisfied with just that. We are complete amateurs, so please do help!

Where are you? In my area, Tulsa, OK, you can order all new doors and drawer fronts a lot of places, like All Wood products (one of the places the cabinet refacing companies use). It all depends on your budget, so decide what it really is or you will bust it from the get go. I simply painted and put new hardware on my cabinets and bought new countertops. Those do not look like standard door sizes, so big box store is not going to be able to help you. I think paint is going to be your least expensive option here. New door hardware and counter tops can really do a lot. I think the lay out is not quite right, so just do the minimum to make it livable and then save to get what you want. For flooring, Cork floors are an easy install or a vinyl plank style floor.

Start looking at pictures of kitchens that have been painted and see how that makes you feel.

you can try @ www.kitchenreface.com, looks like they have some sale right now. You can measure the drawer fronts and cabinet door size and replace them which may be cost effective . I did re stain my client cabinets, but it is a laborious job. I wouldn't recommend this unless you have very high quality cabinets like solid cherry wood.

To paint, sand the existing finish so they are smooth, use a good primer, allow to dry, sand between each coat- lightly and use a good paint. It is worth it to do this- they will look amazing. I like Sherwin Williams they have a durable finish. Satin or semi-gloss depending on the look you want. Paint the back of the doors first and then the front so you do not risk scratching them.
