Just my opinion here, but WHY would you intentionally do this?? There's no organic reason for colored mulch. Talk your family into enjoying colored flowers and plants. Save the color for house painting, clothing, furniture and other non-garden uses. Food dye will wash away with the rain.

I'll admit the red color does have more curb appeal.. But I like the look of fresh shavings.

Yes and so is the brown, and the black is either carbon powder or another form of iron oxide. Basically the colors being used are quite harmless. They're based on very durable compounds (rust can't break down, it's already rusted!). Organic dyes (I mean that in the organic chemical sense, not Organic as in 'chemical-free') such as the ones used on clothing would bleach in the sun. Mulch dyes are safer than food colorings and fabric dyes. Although I wouldn't recommend eating the mulch, like my sister did when she was a toddler. It could explain a lot about my sister. But I digress. :-]

I'm solidly in the "No!" to strongly colored mulch. It looks cheap and phony, taking the focus away from a nice home and lovely landscaping. Mulch, in its best use, is a neutral to the eye.

I have seen it used to great affect in front of fast food restaurants, bargain retail establishments, but in front of homes, it's a big failure as a design feature for a quality piece of property.

Now, if you live in a part of the country where these kinds of colors are part of the accepted aesthetic, you're totally forgiven, lol.

This may be the product you're looking for. But again, why would you prefer the IHOP aesthetic to the mulch's natural appearance?

There's no accounting for taste so let's not get on the OP's case too much. If they like artificial fake looking mulch, who are WE to judge? LOL

Although I did find a pic on the web of bright blue colored rubber tire mulch, with big concrete looking urn pot things in the middle, and I have to say that nearly everyone but the owner would have to think that was hideous. :-D

I'm sure many a passerby has viewed my wildlife garden as nothing more than an overgrown weed field. Black-eyed Susans are not exactly the subject for a Monet after you let them go to seed instead of deadheading them.
