Running a range vent to an outer wall

we currently don't have a vent system in our kitchen to blow out all the food odor and grease from cooking so it's such a hassle keeping cabinets and walls clean. my husband took down some cabinets to
figure out how to run the duct work, initially we thought we could run it thru the roof then out the exterior wall however there is a stud in our way. any suggestions would help.
