Tuesday's two plus seedlings

It got pretty chilly here last night and some daylilies were very slow to open.

Geometric Wizard was slow to open and had funny splotches on it.

Pretty Little Polly was open for the first time. I think the color is muddy.

We had two new seedlings open today that were worthy of photos. Lava Flow X Gary Lynn's Calliopsis earns the title of Queen of the Garden today. We like the bright color and the ruffles. It is a fancier flower than either parent although it lacks their saturated eye.

Daddy's Heart X Carpathian Magic's color is rather muddy, but we like the metallic gold edge and it even had a few teeth. That is what we are looking for in tet minis and smalls. Looking at its edge up close is really amazing. It just sparkles in the sun.

Anytime you post it, Geometric Wizard will be my pick, splotches or not. Both of your seedlings are lovely.

I love, love, the Queen of the Garden today and its understated halo. How big is the bloom?

P.S. Is there a registered daylily named Queen of the Garden?

Debra, the bloom on the Queen is about 6 inches. The plant is very small at this time (it's the maiden bloom). We got these plants in the ground too late last season. It does look like it will have a respectable scape.

I looked up the name Queen of the Garden and it was used in 2009 by Petit. Too bad!

We have finished planting seedlings this year--somewhere between 1300 and 1400 hundred. I will have a final count later when I finish logging all the crosses. It's a great feeling not to have to worry about the seedlings. Now all we have to worry about is the weeding.

Your Lava Flow seedling deserves the title today, it’s lovely. I like geometric Wizard, it’s aptly named. Glad you are done planting seedlings, phew!

I like the Queen today. Love the ruffles! Geometric Wizard is always interesting even with extra stuff going on!

Geometric Wizard is a sunny bright one - except for the blotches. Hope that isn't usual......As for your seedling Lava's Queen of the Garden, I'd like to see if that develops into something. Really liking the form and color. Maybe the pattern will be enhanced as it matures as well.........Maryl

Nancy - I can't even imagine planting that many seedlings. If I'm lucky I''l find space for about 40.

Now there is an interesting eye ! Geometric Wizard is an eyed daylily that interests me . What a great bloom
