Live_wire_oak I read about fissures, but this is the only place we see it in the nearly 100 sq feet of counters we had installed. Wouldn’t it appear other places also if it was a natural part of the stone?

The question is, was it part of the uncut slab or created during fabrication?

Do you have any photos of your slabs that can be zoomed in to try to see if the crack is new?

A crack would be all the way through, from one side of the stone to the other, creating two separate pieces that moved independently. That is a fissure. Any attempt to do anything to it other than Joe’s sharpie will only make it more apparent. It’s fine. Don’t sweat it. Granite isn’t waterproof to begin with. Honed already has a physical texture that will get contaminated with stuff by itself. Nothing has changed about any property of the stone. It just has a more interesting look to it than you thought it had.

Agreed this is a fissure, normal and natural. My island has atlas 4 fissures. With any granite you are likely to have fissures, but especially one with more pattern or texture you will have more fissures.
