Zucchini stem split

A few days ago, I noticed that my zucchini plant's stem split and starting to dry out. I don't think it's squash vine borers because there's no sawdust like things around. I think it may be because the plant is getting heavy and starting to lean. The plant continues to thrive though! Right now, it's covered with aluminum foil so pests can't get in. I was wondering if I should keep the aluminum foil on or put soil around it and like a mound.
