I always tell my clients stainless appliances and sinks are like blue jeans-they go with everything. I think brass is going to go out of style in 10-20 years just like everything does, but as long as you get pulls in standard sizes you can always change them out. I personally have stainless appliances and sink but the oil-rubbed bronze handles, faucet and lighting.

I'm old enough to remember when stainless appliances were unheard of in residential kitchens...only commercial. And stainless sinks were modern, mid-century. White was the go to then - with the "trend" being a color like avocado or that brown or gold color. It's only been the last few decades that for some reason stainless everything has been the "standard". I can see why....no effort to match anything with it. Depending on the look you want, and your personal style, I don't see why you can't mix metals in hardware and faucets and lighting. Heck, you can even use some color for your hardware. Jazz it up a bit!
