Kitchen Window treatments tie in with family room window treatments?

Hi all!
I’m a little embarrassed to admit I don’t have any window treatments in my house Other than bedrooms and bathrooms.

I have three angled windows in my kitchen, and similar windows in the adjoining family room. I’d like to have a lot of light on the side of the house, and we don’t need privacy because there’s no one behind us. What should I be thinking about as far as window treatments? Should they be coordinated in some way? I usually tend to go neutral with all my finishes. I think the kitchen may need some color though. We are in the middle of a refresh so the finishes will be similar but neutral. Haven’t decided about the finishes in the family room yet.

Since you have the cranks on the windows and need access to them, I wouldn't put anything there. Valances can be old fashioned and your windows are more contemporary. If I didn't need privacy, I would forego window treatments. The views are nice, but if you don't want to see the deck and its furnishings, try an inside mounted semi-sheer cafe curtain on the tall window. That still allows a view of the trees, but will block the deck and railings from sight. Add color to the kitchen with some colorful hand towels, pot holders, crocks/cookie jars/canisters, a kettle or small appliance. If you limit the items to a few decorative accessories, you can change them out when you feel the mood or the seasons change.

In either room? Both face the back yard. The floor to ceiling are the family room windows.

As I said, only to hide the view of the deck and railing if you really hate seeing them from the floor to ceiling window(s.)

Your view is lovely so you don’t have to do anything but you could consider doing a fabric valance just to add a bit of color.

I'm not sure what your decor is going to be, but I would add some texture with a woven shade or if you're concerned about the stack at the top of the window you could do a roller shade. If you're thinking you just want to add some softness to the window and really don't need sun control or privacy a nice valance would also look good.

FWIW I love the natural light during the day but hate how windows become reflective black boxes in the evening -- I like to pull a textured bamboo shade about 3/4 of the way down at night - I think it really cozies up a room (esp in the winter)

I don't have window treatments along many of my windows, either, and I'm fine with it -- no one behind me. There's no rule that says every window has to have a covering, and IMO many windows look better without one. Just depends.
