While the 24” model can fit into a 24” cabinet, in the real world, a 27” cabinet is much better. Ikea is going to require some major hacking and fillers to make it work.

All microwave drawers are manufactured by Sharp. Sharp build the appliances for other companies that slap their labels on them and jack up the prices. The Sharp SMD2470ASY is the only model whose control panel flips out so its more easily visible from above. This video shows how to install one...apparently no fingers were lost.

Based on the video and installation instructions, I have no idea why the person above recommended a 27" cabinet instead of a 24" one or why "major hacking and fillers" are required when the primary installation task is to build a shelf to support the appliance.

Thank you! We did buy a ventilated shelf from IKEA to support the microwave. I wasn’t sure if we would need to get a trim kit or anything like that. We do have extra trim pieces from the cabinets. I definitely cannot get a 27 inch cabinet because IKEA does not make one so the 24 inch will be fine.

UTRUSTA Reinforced ventilated shelf is 30" x 24": too wide. You will need a trim piece to fill any gap between the shelf that supports the oven and any door or drawer below it.

Oh and the model is bosch hmd8451uc but that was several years ago

We have done this several times. We use a 30” Ikea cabinet and add fillers to the sides. We make custom doors for IKEA cabinets so other things in this photo were modified as well like the recessed channel and the plug in the filler.

Yeah, the vertical brackets look like they're just attached to the shelf with screws.

We got the shelf and a 10” drawer for below. We did Semihandmade drawers fronts and all so hopefully we can get it to work. I’m nervous.
