This is the view of my winter garden from the service entrance. I can't say I imagined this view in detail. Other perspectives took precedence. The selective chop down of the freeze-dried summer meadow was started. A billion tons of forest leaves have fallen. You can imagine what I do with them all.

I was contemplating taking the Leucothoe, Doghobble hedge (top of picture, bottom of garden) for an aimless meandering walk deeper into the forest. I just need to borrow more of the adjoining property.

@bengz6westmd There are 3 more acres of freeze dried weed flowers out there that I let winter have its way with. The remnants come down as the bulbs wake up. There is also stern judgment on the quality of the winter knockdown. The slope below my house with the winter Under Garden of dwarf conifers is the only early chop down I do.

@plantkiller_il_5 Thanks Ron. I got whimsy a plenty. Not quite sure how it happened. It was near 60 here today, but last couple weeks saw many lows near 20. The snow was a false alarm.

@nicholsworth Z6 Indianapolis I blow the driveway and parking lot. Eventually I get to the basement patio. Might as well let the wind howl a few times and see what settles down there. Everything else is left where it lands. You do have to walk through the pillars when using that path.

This is a view from a perspective that took precedence. The light was nice for a short stroll when I got home.

And a closer look at the evergreens that help make a garden for me in the truly barren time of winter in this deciduous forest.

Nice. I don't chop down the freeze-dried weeds where they occur -- wind, snow and gravity sorta flattens them over time. I do have to rake leaves off the grass -- into the weeds.

we clean the roof, driveway and deck..mow the paths and our small "grassy" (mostly weeds) areas..8?9? tenths of the lot is wild..the leaves stay..

Chris I like your entrance "pillars"..I placed an arbor as an entrance on one end of my backyard..

Christopher..I have a shady lot..I'd love to have a sunny space in addition to my wooded areas..I have some evergreen groundcovers and perennials but very few evergreen shrubs..just a few boxwoods..I'd love to grow evergreens like yours..

great for defining paths aren't they?..

The only reason I have any sun at all is because of the utility easement for the electric lines. Of course I am going to use it to best advantage. Evergreens for shade are pretty limited. Rhododendron is a given here. Doghobble, the Leucothoe and Cephalotaxus harringtonia work pretty well in less sun.

Kind of quiet around here so might as well show you another perspective of the Bones of Winter. This would qualify as gardening with a bit of a twist.

Dec 3..my Judd viburnum..the best "bones" standing in my yard..still looking good today Dec 5..

Buried sangria bottles. That is great color for this late. All my deciduous shrubs are now bare.

thanks!..2 shots of a Jetstream oakleaf taken today..planted 7? 8? weeks ago..

I also have lots of bare deciduous shrubs..

ideas to enclose my compost?..I had 2 logs on hand and "beefed up" the 2 trees where we tie the tarp when we chip..get more logs?..or plant hedges on the sides?..

Lining/enclosing it with more log sections is similar to building a wooden box for the compost.

That's the way the wind blows. The leaf filled one has a stick in it helping catch the leaves. I'll blow it out eventually if the wind doesn't get to it firat.
