Need advice on what to do with this fireplace wall

magic1001
last year

My daughter just purchased a 60's (possibly 70's era home) with a strong mid century vibe.

She loves the original fireplace wall (see pics). The fireplace wall will stay......BUT it somehow feels disjointed with the strong orange undertone stain and red tile. Note: There is no other stained wood in the home except the exterior door as all the interior doors have been painted.

We are looking for ideas on how to treat this fireplace feature to improve it. Should we paint or restain? Also, how to deal with the tile.

The kitchen and bath will be gutted. So we are also looking for ideas on what the kitchen and bath should look like in order to tie the house together with the improved fireplace wall. Note: we definitely want to create a clean modern mid century vibe look, but we are not purist and are open to all ideas including re-staining or painting the fireplace wall.

Looking for paint color ideas as well. Right now the walls are a light sage.

The exterior will be painted earth tones and the awning and storm doors removed.
