Week-end Music (FNM): Happy 4th of July + Canada Day Holiday

Lars

last modified: last year

I was going to do a different topic, but since it will be a long week-end, I thought I would dedicate it to this holiday.

Key Words: 4th of July, Holiday, Happy, Canada, Candian, USA, America, American

If you are not in the U.S. or Canada, you can post any "Holiday" or "Happy" song. (The only other "Happy" we've done is Happy New Year.)

I was a kid when this came out … and in my 20s, spent a lot of time in Philly. One 4th of July there, we were watching fireworks, and this was playing. Love the song, miss Philly!

I'll start with an English group:

For better sound, here's a stereo version:

    Here's a Canadian group:

Hard to believe that this is from 1970.

Deleted my contribution, for not reading the suggested words. Sorry.

    eta:

But I still like This Land is Your Land.

And think America the Beautiful should be our National Anthem.

My suggested words are just that: suggestions. You can add whatever song you like, especially patriotic songs, which are appropriate for the holiday.

I think This Land is Your Land is certainly appropriate!

So, today is July 1st and it's Canada Day. My song for today is Life is a Highway by Tom Cochrane. Tom Cochrane is Canadian (the song was also covered by Rascal Flatts) and the song has morphed into something uplifting and positive from its original intent. I think its a song that both of our countries can appreciate on these two special days.

Oh and Happy July 4th to you all.

This song really makes me miss Canada - I haven't been there in a long time, and I used to go every year at least once.

Was playing this for the campers today - I never tire of it - I consider it my July 4th song 😃

    Party in The USA

And another from good old Acker Bilk:

And what's the 4th without some James Brown?

Living in America - eye to eye, station to station

Living in America - hand to hand, across the nation

Living in America - got to have a celebration

DH and were both at Expo ’67. We were 10 and 5. We always look at pictures from it to see if we might have encountered each other! This song is from Expo.

Some folks are born, made to wave the flag,

Oooh they're red, white, and blue

And when the band plays Hail to the Chief

Oooh they point the canon at you.

    It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no senator's son

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate one.

And on a less cynical note:

I can’t seem to pull up the actual video, but this is my favorite.

But, I love Canada too, having spent my Summers growing up at our summer house on Lake St.Clair in Belle River, Ontario. I just don't have a song for it at the moment:
