Those doors will not look updated no matter what you do to them, and they are a huge pain to sand down. If you are set on painting all of the cabinets, then replacement doors painted in the new color are the answer. Post a picture of the whole kitchen and describe the end result you want.

Gray is still popular, and a far better choice than 80’-90’s honey oak that will always look old and dated. I think the cathedral will still look dated painted. If you went with a super dark color maybe it would hide it more. If you are in the home for the long haul, get new doors. If not, I’d get 1 door painted and see if you like it or still dislike the profile.
