I was surprised by the unacceptability of veining as well.

  • Feathers11

    ...yet "geeking" is acceptable.

And that's why my motivation is low for this game and I have no real shame for peeking at the odd clue supplied by readers.

My apologies! I didn't catch on to that important detail.

A few days ago my streak was broken. DD and kids were staying with us for s few days while waiting for a part for their water heater (no hot water). I was on early baby duty and did not finish the Spelling Bee, and was so tired that night I forgot to go back to it.

But ….. Thomas helped me with it while we were rocking on the porch and he entered his very first word!

Darn, how'd I forget NTTONNOAOGON! I did get the conventional spelling, NTONNOAOGON.

Why not "agonal"? And also surprised re: "veining" !

  • Bunny

    But "woot" is okay.

After I posted my sad tale of a broken Queen Bee record, the NYT instituted previous game play, allowing you to go back and finish or start a previous game that week, so I did finish Saturday’s puzzle after all!

@Kswl I just noticed that new feature last night and thought of you! Glad you were able to keep your (impressive!) streak alive!

    No evite?

  • deegw

LOL, I tried it more than once.

  • dedtired

There’s one word today that i think isnt quite fair. I think evite, which i tried, should be included if that word is included.

I got Wordle in 2 today. A week ago I went 6 and out. Redemption.

  • Bunny

Ded, I think I know the word you mean. The dumbed-down spelling? That's why I have no qualms about cheating on SB (i.e., looking up words or resorting to "Community"). I do go as far as I can without help, but if Sam can be arbitrary, so can I.

dedtired, now that the day has passed, what word is it that you thought didn't belong? I made QB so found them all...I too tried evite.

Why did I think he took evite before?

I always hought incentivized was looked down upon as corporate gobbledygook speak, in favor of incented.

  • Bookwoman

Both involve the verbification (if you will) of a noun; to me, they're equally bad.

  • Bunny

    "Incented"?

    Yeah

  • OutsidePlaying

Agree. I missed at least one or two and pretty sure it was incent or incented.

  • Bookwoman

Just looked up the etymology, and the first use of 'incent' was in 1981. Ah, '80s corporate-speak....

  • Annie Deighnaugh

It wouldn't take incent though I tried it after incentivized.

Well, blow me down. I had no idea. I thought it was just some German word that worked its way into everyday usage. However, when I just googled it, every darn citation had it capitalized.

  • Zalco/bring back Sophie!

The generic German for that type of cake pan is kugel hopf.

He used to seem to be into food, but does not know benne?

  • Zalco/bring back Sophie!

Someone should map his in foods versus the out foods.

He’s into Indian food, certainly and maybe only, but he’s definitely not a cook bc he misses pretty common words related to food and preparation.

So did anyone besides me miss ‘dooryard‘ yesterday? Maybe it is a regional term and I’m not familiar with it.

  • Ded tired

I got it just through trying random combinations. Never heard that term.

  • Bunny

I got dooryard, but I don’t believe I’ve ever used it or heard it used. However, I’ve read it in old novels.

Zalco, Yesterday, he didn't have "foiling." I am kind of teasing about HL, but foiling is absolutely a words; e.g. he was lauded for foiling the plot.
