You need to 86 the backsplash, and you need something complementary to an espresso stain on the cabinets. There are a lot of new glass tiles that would be perfect, some even have travertine or limestone to draw everything in.

The floor tile is also very plain, however it will stand out if you use the dark espresso stain on the cabinets.
Using brushed nickel or stainless cabinet pulls will also give you the detail you need for a more functional kitchen.

Other option is keeping as is, just new paint. The green is wretched!

It really depends on the style of the rest of your house. If it's relaxed, like cottage or French country, I like cream cabinets with gold granite. Taupe walls. Glass doors in a couple cabinets would look nice, too.

I like the contrasting black island in that photo, too.

Personally, i like the green paint. Coordinates with the counter. Gold or yellow is too much the same. Red or orange too bright. Blue, not so much. Gray, boring. But, get a different backsplash, bring in a different color there.
If you really wish to paint, buy samples & paint small areas, observe in different lights

Actually, taupe would be a nice change. Tumbled stone by kelly moore is one to try.

New backsplash, new paint on walls, new drawer pulls and new light fixtures. I think that might be about the same cost to reliant the cabinents!

BTW, those pix above were from my previous home (now a rental) - I wanted to tone down the "orange" cabinets, and it really helped! Still getting compliments from people about the color.
