Help with furniture/room design for room that sits bt LR and DR

We have an old farmhouse that has 2 living rooms. One we have converted to our LR with TV, but I have no idea what to do with the other one! Besides being the 1st room you enter from the front door, it also sits bt LR and DR. It is approx 13.4 x 13.6. It will not have a TV. I would like to use the chairs already in the room and maybe have a desk area for the kids to study. Can anyone help with furniture placement options and other pieces to use? Everything I do seems to block the flow into either the DR or other LR! Appreciate any suggests!

place a barrel chair in front of each window (about 12" from the window into the room) with an ottoman in front of each chair. With the desk in the middle of the chairs, a kinda of study,reading, relaxing area will be created. The "new chairs" I'm suggesting will be floating more in the center of the room (similar to where the barrel chairs are in your photo) with a large coffee table to hold magazines ,books and décor. I'm envisioning a library feel. Does that appeal to you?

Place a desk where you have the large armoire, flank with the barrel chairs and ottomons, add two large, comfy library chairs in the rug area with a substantial coffee table.

Thanks patriciarhall, so if looking at the 2nd picture, the barrel chairs would be facing away from the desk with a coffee table in front of it?

Okay here is an idea of how it would look. It was too close to put the "new" chairs in front of the barrel chairs. Image the brown dog bed is a coffee table and the chair in front of the armoire would be the desk chair. I do like the chairs with the ottomans next to the armoire. Just not sure what to try next!

Wow! Looks more cheerful already. The armoire could go where the small chest is now. A bit of art and live plants will complete your room.

Thanks Patriciarhall and Warner Decor. I have not thought of any furniture because I was having such problems coming up with a layout! So thanks for the ideas! I will need chairs, a desk and coffee table now :) BTW Warner Decor, I love the 3 metal tables you posted, super cute!!

I like the uncluttered look of the second desk which will be good with the leather chairs flanking it.
