A couple of thoughts:
First, the fact that you might sell in 10 years is really immaterial, though you mention it several times. Who really knows what will happen in 10 years? The time can go by very fast (we redid out kitchen 13 years ago, and I still think of it as my 'new' kitchen, as we had the old one for 18 years).
Second, all that being said, it is a long time to live with something that you are not happy with; it sounds like you like the uniqueness of the stone, but aren't happy with the overall look...personally, I think it is the tiled BS that doesn't 'work.' Your pre-BS picture of the kitchen looks lovely, and really lets the stone be the star. My husband and I chose a granite that most people would have shied away from...it certainly doesn't fit in with the ubiquitous gray and white kitchens that have prevailed over the last 10 years or so, but we still love it. Our home is a Spanish style, furnishings are traditional/some transitional, so the sleek, contemporary or farmhouse look would not have been appropriate. The granite itself is a bold color, but from a distance it looks more solid:
We still think it is a beautiful stone.
Third, we made all of our choices before I discovered Houzz, and I have learned so much since then...there are a few things that I did 'wrong.' For example, we put a framed stone piece above out range, which is a big "NO." Also, I would have maybe chosen an eased edge, rather than the beautiful ogee edge that our fabricators did such an amazing job on. These things are considered 'dated,' now, and I should feel bad about having these elements in my kitchen, but I don't! The kitchen is functional, it fits our home and I still love it. My point: do what YOU like, not what people on Houzz tell you to do, not what some buyer in 10 years might want. Your stone is lovely, your cabinets are lovely, and I am sure that you will spend many happy hours in your new kitchen.
