Twelve Creative Ways To Decorate With Message Boards
I've been in the process of building two message boards for my house this past week, one for the kitchen and one for Isabella and Max's bathroom. Working on these boards inspired me to see what creative message board ideas I could find on Houzz! From chalkboards and unique surfaces painted with chalkboard paint, to cork boards and fabric covered message boards, both large and small, the selection of message boards I found bring both style and function into the rooms they are placed.
I simply adore this image! The pale turquoise cabinetry is happiness, really, and what I love best is the large cork board framed in millwork painted the identical color. Hanging the board at same height as the top of the cabinetry was a choice that makes the message board look like an extension of the cabinetry. What a functional addition to a delightful home office and studio placed at the end of a room. I could go on, the light fixture, the windows...but this Ideabook is about message boards. Shoot.
A large inspiration/message board placed alongside a dining room table not only adds visual interest with its color and pattern, but what a great conversation piece. I can just image joining a dinner party at this table and quizzing the owners about the bits and pieces pinned to the board. Also note the light fixture attached to the board, extending over the table...very cool.
The dark chalkboard lining the wall behind the desk area in this kitchen adds the perfect graphic element, grounding the design. How handy...who doesn't need a place to post reminders? And even better, this list can't be misplaced.
Again, let me get distracted from the theme of this Ideabook. The turquoise table with the nickel industrial pendant hung above simply makes this kitchen!

Okay, so what do you do if the fireplace doesn't work? Board it up, paint on some chalkboard paint and create a place to write inspiring quotes!
A message board needn't be large to be fabulous. This fabric lined board hung in what I assume is an entry or mudroom is both chic and functional. Hanging the white frame, lined with a white and brown print, against the colored walls looks fresh and pretty.
This family must have a lot to say! The entire space is a great example of the power of a black and white color palette in design, softened just slightly by the pale wood floors. I would enjoy eating a sandwich sitting at this island, while reading through the notes on the wall!
I've seen message boards lined with fabric but never wallpaper, let alone grasscloth! What a fabulous idea. This message board, placed above the desk among a collection of images, fits right in. The wallpaper brings beautiful texture to the vignette that works well with the zebra wood on the chair.
Who knew a mixture of Dr. Seuss, a claw foot tub, an old door and chalkboard paint could add up to such a great little corner in a bathroom. I guess the Cat in the Hat did eat cake in the tub!
A magnetic chalkboard created on the side of the cabinetry is quite the modern solution to life these days. I love the ability to both attach and write things on this magnetic chalkboard. The calendar would most certainly help any family stay organized and on time!
Seeing chalkboard paint line the walls above wainscoting in such a traditional craftsman home is quite surprising, and yet beautiful. Again, what a wonderful spot to dine and discuss the various notes and writings on the wall.
If I could pick one room featured in this Ideabook for my home, this would be it. What an outstanding space for a family with children. This space offers ample storage, plenty of seating and lighting along with a view to the outdoors. But the item that makes the space? One very large message board covering an entire wall. It is a perfect spot to hang artwork, school work, notes, invitations and inspirations!
