Houzz Escape: A Trip to Tuscany
Warm Up Winter With a Virtual Getaway to Sunny Italy
I don't know about you, but I've still got a hankering to get the heck out of Dodge. I think yesterday's getaway to Greece only exacerbated the situation. So today I'm heading back to the Mediterranean (quite the jet-setter I am), only this time, I'm stopping in Italy. I've cobbled together a trip to Tuscany thanks to photos from Houzz users. Let's go!
After a long flight and exhausting drive out of town and into the countryside, I'm beat. But even the most jet-lagged traveler would perk up at the sight of this rosy-hued villa.
I'll just turn in here and cut the engine. Sigh; even the garages are rustic-gorgeous in Tuscany.
I'll take a quick forty winks in my room before getting a lay of the land. It's rather sparse in there, but the exposed wood ceiling and hand-plastered walls offer plenty of character.
And the view doesn't hurt, either.
Let's have a quick snack of some prosciutto and figs on the veranda. A little sustenance is just what we need before a long day poolside.
Pool, chaise, repeat...
...Until the bright sun slowly starts to set on our first day in Tuscany.
We can sip on an aperitivo outside the villa (this one, Torre Vecchia, is also a bed and breakfast), watching the grapes from the property's own vineyard ripen in the setting sun...
... Then head indoors for a big feast around the dining table. There will be good conversation, gesticulation like only Italians can do, and plenty of laughter.
This way to the wine cellar. The party will end, as most do, down there.
But no bottles here! We'll drink straight from the barrels as we try the latest offerings from the in-house winery. Grazie mille, Italia!
