This is a lovely idea but it makes me laugh a bit, that now with open plan living we want to hide away everything that's kitchen-like behind cupboards, or in a giant pantry (read kitchen) so it doesn't seem like we are living in -the kitchen! Still, you have to have a place to put stuff other than the bench.
