Kitchen Renovation in Lafayette SquareTraditional Kitchen, St Louis

Lafayette Square is a historic district in the City of Saint Louis. The home was built before the turn of the last century. The kitchen had been remodeled several times since the 1880s. Actually, no, designers are not required to answer all questions. Clients have paid a lot of money for designers to create these interiors. The designer posts these photos giving the public free inspiration, and the clients who paid for the professional services are being gracious enough to allow the public to use their homes to inspire. Houzz is a wonderful service but keep in mind that every time a designer answers a question you are receiving free interior design service. The designer spent numerous hours tracking down the finish materials you see in these photos.

Thank you for your interest in our project! We have been happy to answer as many questions as we possibly can throughout the day. If your question is urgent and we have not gotten back to you, please feel free to send us a private message. These cabinets are a custom color created by the cabinet shop, S.W. McMillan Cabinets, the client and cabinetmaker created the color together. Customization can be a great route to take!

We used an opaque urethane on the cabinets, tinted to match Porter "Phoenix Fossil." The tops are marble - not sure the species - and stainless steel.

Lovely! Please share the specific kind of marble & wall color. Much appreciation

I honestly can't recall. I think it was ebony but we did not have the floor finisher open up the grain with water so while it absorbed color into the grain, it did not make everything opaque.
  • mcbria
It was a standard Minwax color. I think was a standard color.

Hi Johanne, thank you for reaching out! What details on the flooring would you like? We can then reach out to the the appropriate people on our team. www.mitchellwall.com

I called to ask, the floors are the original and the staff member indicated that they don't keep records about what stain colour was used to refinish.

The builder, McMillan Construction Co. made the shelving in their shop.

This is Dave from McMillan Cabinetmakers, and yes, we did make the shelves (and the cabinets). They are of wood with opaque urethane finish. The galley rail and inset drip mat are from Hafele USA and the aluminum brackets are from Doug Mockett. The lower shelf also hides recessed LED strip lighting. They turned out very nicely!

The shelves were made by the cabinet maker. The cool thing is that they have a slightly recessed top (with a lip around the edge) to hold the non-slip insert in place so if the glasses are a little wet, it's not an issue.
