This lovely breakfast room, overlooking the garden, is an inviting place to start your day lingering over Sunday morning coffee. I had the walls painted in a soft coral, contrasting with various wood tones in the armoire, table and shades. It is all tied together by keeping the chair covers and rug light in color. The crystal chandelier is an unexpected element in a breakfast room, yet, your not compelled to pull out the china and silver.

Custom locally built dining table designed by For a family wanting a dramatic entry and dining room, but with requirements that it be an indestructible venue for weekly brunches with guest lists including small children! Our first solution was to create a contrasting border integral to the hardwood floor, in lieu of an area rug. From there, we introduced furniture in resilient materials such as fiberglass chairs and a locally made custom table of Heather's design in reclaimed hardwood, steel and acrylic. Luxurious drapes, dramatic accessories and a chandelier with glimmer added the required panache.

The design of the formal dining room ultimately set off a chain of resizing throughout the building process for the Schneiders. "First, we bumped our dining room wall out 5 feet to accommodate our large, family oriented dining room table & chairs", Gayle explains, "and with the house plan being symmetrically designed, we then bumped the left side of the house out 5 feet as well, to mirror the change of the right side of the house." As a result, other rooms, such as the kitchen and upstairs loft, gained space and usability.
Gayle and Gary continued similar materials from the adjacent living room for a unified look. Personal treasures are kept on display in the cabinet from Restoration Hardware, while natural elements and materials highlight the center of the table.

View into formal dining room from grand entry foyer. The floors of this home were stained with a custom blend of walnut and dark oak stain to let the grain of the white oak shine through. The walls have all been paneled and painted a crisp white to set off the stark gray used on the upper part of the walls, above the paneling. A silk light grey rug sits proud under a 12' wide custom dining table. Reclaimed wood planks from Canada and an industrial steel base harden the soft lines of the room and provide a bit of whimsy. Dining benches sit on one side of the table, and four leather and nail head studded chairs flank the other side. The table comfortably sits a party of 12.

A sleek dining room in a Tribeca loft we designed. We wanted this space to be as unique as our clients, so we incorporated a custom dining table and Bocci globe pendant lighting. Contemporary chairs by Dennis Miller bring the design together, pairing wonderfully with the lighting and contrasting with the table.
Project completed by New York interior design firm Betty Wasserman Art & Interiors, which serves New York City, as well as across the tri-state area and in The Hamptons.
