Built in the pre Civil War era (est. 1830's), this historic barn's addition was built to match with its notably beautiful characteristics and to maintain its integrity. It was custom built with rough sawn eastern Hemlock fibers and cladding. The walls were poured concrete walls with a stucco finish to give it a strong, durable, and rustic feel. Each custom door and window was designed to have a specific purpose for the barn's functionality and client's needs. As a full working barn that includes horses, the cutest donkey, chickens, and ducks, a standing seam roof was installed with solar panels to give daily power to these amazing animals. Coinciding with its history, the barn's floor bricks were repurposed from Second Chance in Baltimore, Maryland.
Bob Chatham Custom Home Design
Designed for the coastal community of Point Clear, this timeless beauty was skillfully crafted by Gene Evans of Marquee Custom Home Builders. The Tranquil apartment is located at the end of the food street, in V.V Puram, Bangalore. The structure is strategically layered between the residential locality and the ever bustling and lively food street. The area adorns a contemporary character from the contrasting old colonial structures and temples.
The design team wanted the characteristic of the surrounding area to be portrayed in the façade. The inside out façade allows the inmates to be in ode with nature. This also allows ample sunlight to veil the interiors. The entire apartment complex needs no artificial light for most part of the day. An open mouthed, wedge shaped feature on the façade cladded with wooden finished high-pressure laminates, denotes its adaptiveness to embrace the new and old culture. The wide spread rafters are receptive to the hustle and bustle, but also creates a curtain between the inmates and the outside world.
The curved shape element, in the center of the structure with triangular shaped pattern, unites the wedge shape feature and the rigidity of the rafters. The minimal and contrasting use of colors, textures, shapes and materiality beholds the simple but alluring façade.

BYTR architects
BYTR architects designd the extension of this charming detached house in the old town of Zeist (NL). The characteristic contour of the existing home is used as a reference for the of 19th century house. Two modern gable roofs, together with the historical mansard roof make a surprising composition.
The extension of the house has doubled the living space. Despite the increase in volume, you experience the new building from the street as a little addition. The extension is hidden behind the existing building. Also inside you experience the expressive roof shape which creates a spacious and contemporary atmosphere.
The monolithic extension contrasts in materials and detailing of the existing house. The relief of the old brick walls defines the contrast with the anthracite flat façade panel of the extension.
The interior also shows the contrast between old and new. Through a large sliding façade you step into the modern living kitchen. A tight plastered ceiling and concrete floor stands in contracst to the original wooden beams and an oak parquet. Classic and modern brought together in a charming way.

This kitchen renovation created a new open concept design by reconfiguring a Dining Room into the Kitchen space. The new, larger kitchen permitted the addition of a much needed ground floor Powder Room.
Our clients’ love of travel and cooking required a kitchen to celebrate life adventures with family and friends. There is a very functional work triangle that is enhanced by the island ‘Chefs Table’. This island has unique characteristics in its transparency at the lower section. This helps in making the wide room feel less cramped. A cozy bistro table is tucked into the island and perfectly centered to the existing living room opening.
Traditional recessed panel cabinets are done in classic white and Metropolis grey. The grey, being a great compliment to the warmth of the existing birch floor.
The peninsula separating the dining area features raised cabinets on the dining side that act as a visual barrier of the cooking side. Above are display shelves to hold the beautiful bowls collected on family travels.

The transformation of this ranch-style home in Carlsbad, CA, exemplifies a perfect blend of preserving the charm of its 1940s origins while infusing modern elements to create a unique and inviting space. By incorporating the clients' love for pottery and natural woods, the redesign pays homage to these preferences while enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal and functionality of the home. From building new decks and railings, surf showers, a reface of the home, custom light up address signs from GR Designs Line, and more custom elements to make this charming home pop.
The redesign carefully retains the distinctive characteristics of the 1940s style, such as architectural elements, layout, and overall ambiance. This preservation ensures that the home maintains its historical charm and authenticity while undergoing a modern transformation. To infuse a contemporary flair into the design, modern elements are strategically introduced. These modern twists add freshness and relevance to the space while complementing the existing architectural features. This balanced approach creates a harmonious blend of old and new, offering a timeless appeal.
The design concept revolves around the clients' passion for pottery and natural woods. These elements serve as focal points throughout the home, lending a sense of warmth, texture, and earthiness to the interior spaces. By integrating pottery-inspired accents and showcasing the beauty of natural wood grains, the design celebrates the clients' interests and preferences. A key highlight of the redesign is the use of custom-made tile from Japan, reminiscent of beautifully glazed pottery. This bespoke tile adds a touch of artistry and craftsmanship to the home, elevating its visual appeal and creating a unique focal point. Additionally, fabrics that evoke the elements of the ocean further enhance the connection with the surrounding natural environment, fostering a serene and tranquil atmosphere indoors.
The overall design concept aims to evoke a warm, lived-in feeling, inviting occupants and guests to relax and unwind. By incorporating elements that resonate with the clients' personal tastes and preferences, the home becomes more than just a living space—it becomes a reflection of their lifestyle, interests, and identity.
In summary, the redesign of this ranch-style home in Carlsbad, CA, successfully merges the charm of its 1940s origins with modern elements, creating a space that is both timeless and distinctive. Through careful attention to detail, thoughtful selection of materials, rebuilding of elements outside to add character, and a focus on personalization, the home embodies a warm, inviting atmosphere that celebrates the clients' passions and enhances their everyday living experience.

Located in the territory of Ragalna, an area on the slopes of Mount Etna characterized by high quality cultivations and tourist attraction, the building was originally a single manor house with ancient nineteenth-century winery. Over time it has been divided into two properties of which the part affected by the intervention is located in the north-eastern portion and currently used as a seasonal residence.
In this part of the building the peculiar element was the old warehouse, recently remodelled but left in its raw state. This environment presented several critical issues: limited spaces, geometric irregularities, lack of brightness due to the solid walls adjacent to other buildings, a single access from the public road that borders the property to the north.
The new use of the building is tourist residence for short stays. The reduced available space has been used to best advantage: by exploiting the internal height difference in the floor level, the two adjoining spaces of the day and night areas have been arranged, separated in functions but with a common view.
The original wall box was so divided by a new wall-filter, which interrupts the unique space but lets itself be crossed by natural light and artificial light along the day and night time. The permanence of the robust quadrangular pillar in rough blocks of lava stone and bricks testifies the former use of the building and remarks the boundary between the two areas.
The interior is characterized by a large space dedicated to the living area overlooking the entrance, kitchen, bathroom and bedrooms, the latter located on the slightly lower level.
In the living area prevails a treatment of smooth white surfaces and the continuous floor made of volcanic sand and resin, which due to its characteristics of impermeability and hardness also extends into the bathroom. From the pure white of the living area you go to the marked use of the continuous floor-wall-roof coating in solid chestnut boards in the night area. Going down a couple of steps at the sides of the pillar you enter the two bedrooms, one with two beds, the other with four beds divided on two levels by a small mezzanine made of sheet-folded and a staircase with staggered steps.
Great care has been devoted to details, the use of materials and light: the new partition walls are made of two-layer gypsum fibre boards with cavity for an easy installation of the facility and insulating function, the internal fixtures are custom-made in ecobond panels enclosed in PET sheets with varying degrees of opacity, natural light descends from mechanized ceiling windows with adjustable opening and dimming. Just the light is an important matter of the project: the light rays coming from the windows on the roof bathe the interiors, are filtered by the walls, enhance the colours and textures of the surfaces making the environment almost mystical, while artificial light is guaranteed by wide LED strips hidden between the folds of the coverings and walls.
Through the use of materials such as volcanic sand, wood, metal, we wanted to use some of the raw materials and systems of traditional local architecture. Photo: E.Sarpietro
camilleriparismode
the camilleriparismode project and design studio were entrusted to convert and redesign a 200 year old townhouse situated in the heart of naxxar. the clients wished a large kitchen married to different entertainment spaces as a holistic concept on the ground floor. the first floor would have three bedrooms, thus upstairs and downstairs retaining a ‘family’ home feel which was the owners’ primary preconception. camilleriparismode design studio – careful to respect the structure’s characteristics - remodeled the house to give it a volume and ease of movement between rooms. the staircase turns 180 degrees with each bedroom having individual access and in turn connected through a new concrete bridge. a lightweight glass structure, allowing natural light to flow unhindered throughout the entire house, has replaced an entire wall in the central courtyard. architect ruben lautier undertook the challenge to oversee all structural changes.
the authentic and original patterned cement tiles were kept, the stone ceilings cleaned and pointed and its timber beams painted in soft subtle matt paints form our zuber collection. bolder tones of colours were applied to the walls. roman blinds of large floral patterned fabric, plush sofas and eclectic one-off pieces of furniture as well as artworks make up the decoration of the ground floor.
the master bedroom upstairs and its intricately designed tiles houses an 18th century bed dressed in fine linens form camilleriparismode’s fabric department. the rather grand décor of this room is juxtaposed against the sleek modern ensuite bathroom and a walk-in shower made up of large slab brushed travertine.

2016. "African Room" Interior Design Project by #OxaKovalli.
The most exotic of all existing styles is the African style. A passion for the unfamiliar is so human. Decorating the interior in the African style excites the imagination and creates a sense of touching a mystery, something special. Maximum exotic and grotesque, it breaks the clichéd notions of how the interior should be. To give your home an African flavor, a global rearrangement of the apartment to arrange not necessarily. This style - is the very embodiment of dynamics, expression, and pounding vital energy. A neatly chosen game of contrasts can achieve an interesting visual effect in this interior. For example, for decorating the room, you can choose warm, soft, muted colors: sandy, terracotta, pale, the color of melted milk, ochre, or wood bark. Against this background, the items of decor, curtains, and drapery of saturated hues will look very impressive: scarlet or lemon-yellow finishing cloth of upholstered furniture, orange fixtures, and motley carpets with characteristic ornaments. In terms of colors, the African style imposes the only restriction: you should not use synthetic, fluorescent colors.

noa* (network of architecture) completes a traditional urban residential house and adds a contemporary volume, which grows into the vineyards of Gries.“...the material penetration of the old and the new create a field of confrontation of the generations –an untamed urge for transformation...”-Stefan RierIn the vineyard area of Bolzano (IT), a dwelling house for a butcher family is enlarged; the existing traditional volume is extended with a open and modernstructure. The site, which is protected, is located in an urban transition zone in between the building development of the outskirts of the city and the denser building development around the area of the Griserplatz. The house is divided into twoapartments, which are made accessible with a prominentoutdoorstairfrom the courtyard. The new volumes have a view into all directions, with idyllic vineyards and the characteristic ‘Guntschnaberg’ in the West. The aim was to respect the proportions of the historic building. Therefore the Villa with a pitched roof and classic window openings was amplified with a compactbuildingvolumewith consistent window cluster and generousopenings. The apartments are organised in the way that more intimate spaces are located in the historic part of the house while the living spaces are located in the modern part with a view to south and west.
