A simple raise and re-stump of this house which was apart of a large development site was an interesting project. Although it looks like townhouses, they are actually individually titled homes.
Our contract was to give the house a complete overhaul with all new wet areas upstairs, all new electrical, new roof, full paint inside and out, new front stairs and to rebuild the verandah from 1.8m to 2.1m wide to make it more usable.

Studio TOOP
design: Carrie Preston (Studio TOOP), Carolien Barkman, Carien van Boxtel and Linda Hogeweg
location: Elst, NL
status: installation for the summer of 2014
photos: Jolanthe Lalkens
For a temporary installation Carrie Preston of Studio TOOP collaborated with three other designers on the design of a folly. In the festival of follies, organized by the NVTL (Dutch Society of Landscape Architecture) each participant was allowed to work with the same standard materials and add one extra material to their individual design. Our chosen material was the dried seed heads of Alliums (ornamental onion flowers). We wanted to make a statement about ephemerality. The different size seed heads were used to make "lace" curtains. The Dutch title of the folly "BinnenKant" is a play on words and means both "inside" and "within lace". The folly plays with transparency and the experience of being within a space and connected to a larger landscape.

Lovely pair of grain feed sack pillows from Europe. We custom-made these out of the original antique feed sacks, with zipper closure and overlocked edges. The fronts are a soft pale oatmeal color with pale Swedish blue stripes and original monograming. The backs are of antique French linen, a heavy weight, very soft and also an oatmeal color. All items have been pre washed, clean and ready to use. These printed sacks were individually marked over a century ago, using a tar based stenciling with last and first names of the owner, sometimes his title or profession, the village or hamlet he lived or worked in and usually the year. Not only is the fabric antique or vintage, but the stencil, the calligraphy is original to the product, making it a more rare and valuable textile. Dimensions: 20 x 20 Includes down feather insert.

We transformed a rather tired and dilapidated apartment, housed within a stunning redbrick mansion block in Belsize Park, into a stunning and spacious family home.
Working closely with conservation officers and the planning department we were able to really push the boundaries and work with the volumes of this Victorian building to create a stylish and very comfortable home.
Our clients wanted an eclectic look with Indian influences that really reflected their style and heritage. The end result really works as a charming, calm and stylish family home.

Settling here from overseas, the owners of this house in Primrose Hill chose the area for its quintessentially English architecture and bohemian feel. They loved the property’s original features and wanted their new home to be light and spacious, with plenty of storage and an eclectic British feel. As self-confessed ‘culture vultures’, the couple’s art collection formed the basis of their home’s colour palette. Originally set over four-storeys, the property was tall and narrow with boxy rooms, which made it feel dark and poky. Custom joinery was designed in a myriad of different styles for each room to house the family’s belongings. The ceiling height was increased to create a bright, open family kitchen-diner, which leads to a courtyard garden. There’s a fresh, energetic palette, with aqua-blue and white kitchen cabinetry complemented by fashionable ice cream shades in the dining area. A colourful bespoke rug and contemporary artwork provide the finishing touches. Custom-made cabinetry sits within an alcove housing children’s books, toys and a TV, while further storage is concealed beneath a smart upholstered banquette. In the master suite, a corridor of stylish soft pink panelling conceals floor-to-ceiling wardrobes and leads to a stunning antique mirrored doorway, behind which is a generous marble-clad en-suite bathroom.
