Kunstkammers are on display at the National Museum in Munich and several other major European museums in the region. Measuring in size from diminutive cabinets with just a few drawers to cabinets that fill entire rooms, they date from the Renaissance to the Age of Enlightment. Every noble, titled, learned or moneyed gentleman of the day was an assumed collector of unique and unusual objects. This culturally collective behavior was a favored topic of conversation. Individuals, as well as complete expeditions, were fitted out and sent to remote corners of the globe to collect. Old books were hoarded as well as shells, skulls, ivories, minerals, classical art creations and historical artifacts. Our Kunstkammer Cabinet is multi-functional. Modern collectors don't send out expeditions, preferring to travel and collect the exotica from far away lands themselves. They want a cabinet that not only stores but displays and appeals in its own right. Sliding doors, large and small drawers, pull out shelves. Solid, heavy campaign pulls. Elegant crown molding and base. Everything is right about this cabinet that will be the king of the library, living room or classic office.
Features:
Brass hardware
Sliding glass doors for displaying items
Pull out shelves for extra workspace
Four drawers below--two extra deep to store games, linens, papers
Crown molding at the top and bottom
Shelves have bronze name plates
Sides feature heavy duty handles for easy mobility
Combination of distressed honey and black finish
French finishing

Lovely pair of grain feed sack pillows from Europe. We custom-made these out of the original antique feed sacks, with zipper closure and overlocked edges. The fronts are a soft pale oatmeal color with pale Swedish blue stripes and original monograming. The backs are of antique French linen, a heavy weight, very soft and also an oatmeal color. All items have been pre washed, clean and ready to use. These printed sacks were individually marked over a century ago, using a tar based stenciling with last and first names of the owner, sometimes his title or profession, the village or hamlet he lived or worked in and usually the year. Not only is the fabric antique or vintage, but the stencil, the calligraphy is original to the product, making it a more rare and valuable textile. Dimensions: 20 x 20 Includes down feather insert.

For this remodel in Portola Valley, California we were hired to rejuvenate a circa 1980 modernist house clad in deteriorating vertical wood siding. The house included a greenhouse style sunroom which got so unbearably hot as to be unusable. We opened up the floor plan and completely demolished the sunroom, replacing it with a new dining room open to the remodeled living room and kitchen. We added a new office and deck above the new dining room and replaced all of the exterior windows, mostly with oversized sliding aluminum doors by Fleetwood to open the house up to the wooded hillside setting. Stainless steel railings protect the inhabitants where the sliding doors open more than 50 feet above the ground below. We replaced the wood siding with stucco in varying tones of gray, white and black, creating new exterior lines, massing and proportions. We also created a new master suite upstairs and remodeled the existing powder room.
