We were contracted to work closely with the owners to design a quality home theatre system into their home. The room had always been planned for a home theatre but had never been completed.
The client had a fair idea of the equipment they wanted, or at least a level of quality they wanted to acheive, so we chose Oppo Bluray along with JVC Projection. The combination of these two is absolutely stunning, and doesn't fail to please anyone who sees the picture quality.
We wanted to maintain a very clean looking room so all of the equipment is housed in a floorstanding rack, this is powered and also keeps everything running cool, whilst out of view. The benefits of having an equipment rack range from keeping the equipment free from dust, or being touched accidentally or unwanted damage, along with the benefits of noise reduction and we can pretty much put it in any room of the house.
This was quite a large room, with teired rear seats in two rows so we had to use a large screen, at 127" with an anamorphic ratio (2.35:1) you will not see any front speakers here as they are tucked away nicely behind the screen, inside the wall.
The screen will allow the sound to transfer nicely through it without any diflection or muffling. This makes for a nice clean front of the room. We may look at adding in some LED lighting, or other ambient lighting throughout the room to add some additional colour later down the track.
We started first with an on site consultion with the owners to get a feel for the property and decide on the initial scope, to which we go back and design a full spec with drawings and wiring diagrams of the build, once approved it was setup within two days and fully operational.
We also supplied an apple iPad loaded with URC software to control the whole system, with the touch of a single button everything will turn on, and max 2 button touches for any control type.
The room has come together to be the perfect retreat and a fantastic home theatre room, there will be a kitchenette going in very shortly so you never want to leave..
We have also designed and manufactured some customer made acoustic panels for treating the room, these will also help with any light bleed from the projector onto the adjacent walls.
For any more info on this project or our capabilities send us an email, or get in touch via phone. We would be more than happy to go through some of the options with you.
Form Found Design
Inspired by the multi-functional performance of a shell structure in nature, the design of this two-bedroom, two-bath ADU explored a performance-based roof geometry that becomes the building façade and privacy screen. Coupled with deep roof overhangs, this second skin allows dappled light to penetrate the interior during the day while reflecting the detrimental UV radiation on the southern exposure. The perforations in the second skin are based on the effects of the sun path on the southern exposure and the location of the windows behind the screen. At night, the interior light glows through the perforations, contributing to the name of the project, “LuminOCity”.
Orange Coast College and UC Irvine formed a partnership called "Team MADE" to enter the 2023 Orange County Sustainability Decathlon. "MADE" is an acronym for Modular, Affordable Dwellings for the Environment. LuminOCity won second place in the competition and 9 awards in various categories. Following the competition, the home was donated to Homeless Intervention Services, Orange County, where it serves as an ADU on an existing property to provide transitional housing for youth experiencing housing insecurities.
This 750sf prefabricated, modular home is built on four, eight foot wide modules that nest together. The building system is predicated on a software-to-manufacturing pipeline called the FrameCAD Machine. This roll-former for light-gauge steel allowed Team MADE to prototype as well as site-manufacture every stud and track in the steel-framed home they would design. Over 100 student volunteers aided in the construction of the steel framing, MEP installation, building envelope, and site work. The use of prefabricated Light Gauge Steel allowed for higher construction tolerances with simplified assembly diagrams that could be followed by student volunteers. Joseph Sarafian, AIA was the lead architect as well as one of four faculty advisors on the project, leading the design of the project from conception to completion.

HUX London
Settling here from overseas, the owners of this house in Primrose Hill chose the area for its quintessentially English architecture and bohemian feel. They loved the property’s original features and wanted their new home to be light and spacious, with plenty of storage and an eclectic British feel. As self-confessed ‘culture vultures’, the couple’s art collection formed the basis of their home’s colour palette. Originally set over four-storeys, the property was tall and narrow with boxy rooms, which made it feel dark and poky. Custom joinery was designed in a myriad of different styles for each room to house the family’s belongings. The ceiling height was increased to create a bright, open family kitchen-diner, which leads to a courtyard garden. There’s a fresh, energetic palette, with aqua-blue and white kitchen cabinetry complemented by fashionable ice cream shades in the dining area. A colourful bespoke rug and contemporary artwork provide the finishing touches. Custom-made cabinetry sits within an alcove housing children’s books, toys and a TV, while further storage is concealed beneath a smart upholstered banquette. In the master suite, a corridor of stylish soft pink panelling conceals floor-to-ceiling wardrobes and leads to a stunning antique mirrored doorway, behind which is a generous marble-clad en-suite bathroom.

The architects designed each piece of furniture to serve more than one function. A pink and blue bench with crested canopy acts as dining seating, cosy reading nook, storage, regal throne, and cabinet to display curiosities collected during the family’s travels. This allows each family member to find new uses for the furniture, and through this reinterpretation and multiplicity of uses, longevity is secured and waste is reduced.
