Isn't it fabulous? I have to credit the homeowner with having this idea. The fixture was custom made, but truly it iwas relatively simple to construct. The electrician had it fabricated with standard fixture parts, down light fixtures embedded into the bottom of the surfboard, and the whole assembly hung from a stem and canopy through which the wiring is fed. Because you don't see the top of the board, the wiring was just run on top.Any clever electrician with access to a wood shop could duplicate this piece. I hope that helps!!

The downlights in the drywall are 4" diameter halogen (MR-16). The little lights embedded in the surfboard are LED, probably around 2" diameter and very shallow in height

Big Kahuna lighting. Similar to the surfboard-as-shower idea, drilling some holes and adding bulbs can transform an old shorty (or skimboard, wakeboard or kneeboard, if that’s your preference) into a custom light fixture.

You should make your basement a …Gamer’s paradise: Basements are great because you can take liberty with the style and purpose of the space in a way you might not in the more public areas of your home. For example, you probably wouldn’t put a pool table smack dab in the middle of your living room. But in a basement? Bring it on! And this California basement has it all: pool table, dartboard, shuffleboard table, suspended train set and cool decor, like a surfboard light fixture and a skateboard display. Game on!See more of this basement

This family loves the outdoors and all kinds of sports, and both loves are reflected throughout the basement. One of the homeowners came up with the idea of the surfboard light over the pool table. "The fixture was custom made, but truly it was relatively simple to construct," Murphy says. "The electrician had it fabricated with standard fixture parts, with downlight fixtures embedded into the bottom of the surfboard. The whole assembly is hung from a stem and canopy that the wiring feeds through. Because you don't see the top of the board, the wiring was just run on top."
