Domicile San Francisco

We'd purchased an older home in Seattle and were seeking to become inspired for the huge "dream home" remodeling project that lay before us. Toward an attempt at grounding ourselves we began by considering the kitchen, and so wandered into Ken and Ron's showroom. Their huge, creatively appointed space provided a seriously expansive palate to which our minds began to open with their great products, designs, and ideas. Their laid back approach and ready answers immediately put us at ease and began an exchange that lasted throughout the design and selection process. (They even hooked us up with a terrific architect in Seattle who ended up taking the helm of the entire remodel experience!) In short, what started as a day of considering possibilities, ended 18 months later in a very superior kitchen, bathrooms and... well, everything! Even with the odd requests following installations, they were absolutely the height of professionalism and responsiveness, taking care of our every requirement in a timely and friendly manner. We could not recommend them higher. 5 Stars +

We worked with Domicile in San Francisco for our kitchen and bar cabinets. Ken did a wonderful job designing our space & laying out the cabinets & drawers. The quality is really good too. We enjoyed working with him.

I found my way into Domicile in San Francisco while trying to design a new kitchen. I had worked with a couple other cabinet suppliers, but opted for Domicile since my design called for appliances with custom panel mount doors since they knew the specifics of the appliances and had done this before. Ken helped me choose styles and finishes that complemented the design perfectly. Once they arrived, Domicile dropped them off to the job site, verified that they made it into the space without damage, and even returned to the job site when the contractor was installing them, just to make themselves available in case there were questions. I was more than pleased with that experience and would happily give Domicile positive ratings. What really put the guys over the top for me was several months after the initial install, when my contractor had to do some unrelated-to-remodel emergency work behind the cabinets, and some trim pieces and a drawer face were damaged. I made a quick call to Domicile to explain the situation, and they were able to get replacement parts for me. Without hesitation, I recommend Domicile for any remodels. I plan on using them again when I get around to the laundry room and bathrooms.

Hi have worked with Ken several times over the past 20 years and he has never disappointed. He is a talented designer and can work in a range of budgets and styles. Our first project together was located in Pacific Heights and ended up in a magazine. Ken took our design and added several unique touches and saw it through to completion. Our most recent project is located in Napa and as usual the process is very collaborative. Ken is very pleasant to work with. I highly recommend him.

The service I received was for kitchen design. I was very impressed with the extensive knowledge of Ken and Ron on all things that it takes to remodel a kitchen. Any remodel job, expecially a kitchen, is mind blowing. It gave me piece of mind to work with someone who could help in the decision making process with great results. It was an absolute pleasure working with Ken Burghardt and the team at Domicile Design. Ken was knowledgeable and respectful of our design wishes and at the same time willing to offer valuable ideas that enhanced the design. They met all our deadlines, kept to the committed budget, and were always available to answer questions or provide assistance with other facets of the project. Ken always made us feel like we were his number one priority.

I cannot imagine building a kitchen without Ken Burghardt at Domicile. Our working relationship started in 1980 with my first home, a 1905 working class Victorian San Francisco flat. During the evolution that became Domicile, we conspired on 2 more SF homes and several rental units. The results always exceded my expectations. Ken consistantly found and developed the attributes (often hidden and subtle) of our projects. Critically inportant, he never lost site of my budget - once building an entire kitchen from a retired showroom display. My family moved to Boulder, CO and bought a "spec" home - my only truly new house - and suffered for several years with a barely workable kitchen. Ken was imported and spent a few days observing my family's movements and gridlocks. The budget was much bigger, the obsticles daunting and the results were stunning! He incorporated our love of stained glass with an essential mother-in-law perch into a kitchen and breakfast nook that was a pleasure for family meals as well as a house full of revelers. The housing market was crap when we needed to sell and that kitchen sold it for us (and for the next owners, 5 years later). The empty-nester challenge was a 1967 split level. My best move was designing the remodel around Ken's kitchen. He also provided much of our master bath and entertainment area. So, it's not just kitchens anymore. Ken has amazing vision. We consulted with him just as we were ready to start a project with a design/build firm. He saved us from throwing a lot of money away on a small kitchen remodel that wouldn't have done anything but change our appliances. His vision was to transform the heart of the house into something spectacular, and fix a major architectural design flaw. What we got out of our collaboration with Domicile was wise use of our money and maximization of space all with professional guidance. Lastly, Ken is a delightful person and you will most likely try to find other projects to do with him.

Love Ken! He was so patient (and continues to be) as we built the kitchen of our dreams, in the budget of our reality. And our retro mid-century sensibilities. There were many times when a lesser man might have lost his patience, but Ken never came close. He had a bunch of top notch people to refer us to for things we needed - like our amazing cement counters. He always had an answer for us, and if he didn't, he told us to give him a minute to find out. Loved his honesty and openness. He continues to help us fine tune our kitchen months after construction has finished. I'm not sure I ever want to live through a kitchen remodel again, but if I do, I would use him again in a heart beat.

Domicile Designs San Francisco was introduced to the project by the Owners late in the design phase,and soon proved to be a priceless asset to the design team. They assumed responsibility for the design, specification and supply of all of the interior materials and finishes while coordinating closely with the completion of the architectural drawings. Their depth of knowledge and their ability to work directly with the Owners helped keep the project moving smoothly to completion. Their responses to our requests as the architects were timely, complete and very helpful. I would definitely seek their services on future projects.

Hiring Ken Burghardt to help us redesign our kitchen was the best decision we could have possibly made. Whenever we're giving a tour of our kitchen, we always credit him for his great suggestions and solutions about the layout and functionality. Adding French doors to connect the kitchen to the yard was something we hadn't considered but it was the key to making the space more enjoyable. I would not hesitate for a minute to hire Ken for another project or recommend him to friends, some of whom have also hired him and loved working with him as much as we did.

Working with Domicile was a pleasure. In the design phase, Ken had an idea which I'd never thought of -- and I believed I'd thought of every angle. The contractor he brought in on the job was ideal - someone I could trust to work alone in the house and who was so pleasant, accommodating and careful in every way. I was so pleased with the outcome of the kitchen project, I decided to remodel the master bathroom. I happily recommend Domicile.
