Worked with Eric for a whole house remodel and addition. He was very flexible about working with our difficult schedule (constantly having to juggle our kids schedule). He understood what we were looking for and worked his and our ideas into the plans. This came after many iterations of ideas and he was always willing and able to make adjustments. The town we are in can be particular with renovation plans and he was able to generally navigate all their nuances without issues. The one hiccup was due to the towns subjective opinion about one aspect of our plans (everything presented was within code), but Eric was able to revise to accommodate the towns "recommendation" to get approved. Would recommend Eric for projects big and small.

We are extremely happy with the work that Eric did for our home renovation. The project scope involved a thoughtful redesign of the existing interior and the addition of a wonderful master suite. My wife and I are in our 70s. My husband and I had a great experience working with Eric Baker on the design of our house. We were planning to relocate from NY to CT and engaged Eric as our architect after we acquired land in mid-2019. We hired Eric to give us ideas about how to bring more light into our home. He came and saw the site and listened to what our wish list was. He recommended changing the roof line and removing dormers in our master bedroom to allow for the installation of 24' of windows/doors. He also suggested a complete renovation of the master bath to install 14' of windows. These ideas, which we will be implementing shortly, provide us with the very open feeling that is exactly what we wanted. It was not something we would have thought of. Eric Baker designed an addition to our home (mother-in-law-suite) that is absolutely spectacular. Our vision for the project presented several technical difficulties that Eric incorporated perfectly. He provided excellent advice during construction, clarified the contracting requirements and limitations, and made us quite comfortable with the many detailed decisions that had to be made during the building process. He was also an excellent go-between with the contractors when needed. He remained involved from beginning to end, and was on-site when it was most critical. He's also a very nice guy whom we enjoyed working with. He has our highest recommendation!

Eric Baker was Architect, General Contractor and Designer of our new home. The very successful residential project was entirely Eric's vision. The home built with top quality materials and leading edge technology retains all the charm of a sprawling Colonial farmhouse. The architectural details and nuanced design are the result of both Eric's vast experience and excellent taste. We decided to work with Eric after seeing his reviews on Houzz. He was very quick to respond to our initial message and was accommodating right away. Eric helped to challenge our initial ideas and we completely revisioned our renovation. This is our first home and first major renovation project. We felt like Eric had our best interests in mind and provided clear and thorough plans. He made himself available whenever we had questions or tweaks and in the end, the project will be exactly what we want. Eric was open and fair about costs and helped to keep us within the range we expected. Eric was especially valuable in connecting us with a reliable contractor. He has been checking in on the project as we are underway and is communicating with our contractor to be sure the final product is what we all envisioned. We are thrilled with the progress so far and cannot wait to see the end result!

Adding to our prior review to give context: We were looking to expand our kitchen, add a mud room, bring the laundry out of the basement and create more ‘space’ on our ground floor. Eric presented a concept that added a center hallway, closets, a foyer and a flow that changed the entire feel of our downstairs that brought back some of the historical design and look. Through the course of discussion, we added some work upstairs; at which point Eric came back with a second floor plan that changed our whole view on our house and made it into a long term livable space with two active boys and lots of visitors. By using the space over the ground floor addition, he provided us with a new master suite, and extra second floor bedroom, and laundry upstairs (making our mud room even more usable).

Eric Baker did many clever things for us during the redesign of our home. In our thinking, it was merely an extension to an existing home but we gained much more than a larger kitchen. For example, Eric designed the addition so that "traffic" could move in a Figure 8 pattern that is more convenient and now beloved by grandchildren. Eric also educated us about "strong" and "weak" sides of a home, something that was very important to a corner house on a busy street. The humble back door to the original house is now our front door and it balances our center hall colonial so that it perfectly lines up with the original front door, but with a more welcoming and convenient entrance. He also rightly persuaded us to ignore what I first thought was a great idea about where to place a door. The end result was having a doorway to a new patio that is in a direct path from the kitchen. We had a couple complaints but they were minor. We wish that the opening for a sliding door started from a different side and that one window in the kitchen was centered between the corner and the end of the new cabinetry. The latter was really the result of us not making our mind up soon enough about which cabinetry to buy; it was centered until we changed our minds and it didn't occur to us to be annoyed until a year later. So it really was a minor concern and I suspect that every job has some feature that you would do just a little bit differently. But for us, a significant home addition is a once-in-a-lifetime event so it was good to have someone with a professional eye knowing what to suggest - and what to say "no" to. fyi regarding our overall costs, We also redesigned and created four bathrooms and one halfbath so the overall project costs were much higher than the addition. We also had landscaping - yes, it was once-in-a-lifetime project.

We enthusiastically recommend Eric Baker for architectural design work. Eric designed several modifications to our house, including a balcony, mudroom, family area, and structural modifications for two bathrooms. He has a passion and great experience with architecture and home improvement. He had many good suggestions for the work. He combined pragmatic suggestions with an understanding of what sort of modifications would be appropriate for our house. He was also accurate in estimating the cost of of various improvements for our house. He listened well to our particular needs and worked through several iterations toward a design that met our needs. He was patient and always positive and reassuring about choices that we eventually made. He did change our minds on certain aspects of our project, but we never felt pressured to conform to his suggestions. In the end, for certain aspects of the design he did an excellent job accommodating our particular needs. He also had good suggestions for contractors to do the work.

Eric was always a pleasure to work with. We purchased a small one-level house (two bedrooms one and 1/2 bathroom) because we loved the property. We worked with Eric Baker Architects in 2009 on the complete renovation of a one-story ranch, which ultimately became a 2-1/2 story home at the Jersey Shore. My wife and I are in our 70s. We have three children and two nieces that we treat as children and the five of them have given us eight grandchildren. Our house sits on an acre of land and is a ranch of approximately 3,050 sq. ft. We made a decision to add an additional 900 sq. ft. on the first level and an additional 900 sq. ft. on the lower level. We also added a pool. We are upsizing. We worked with Eric for six months to design an open floor living area of over 1,500 sq. ft. It was a pleasure to work with him. He helped us make decisions and to choose the materials in the house and the pool area. We highly recommend him. He gave us all of the time and attention we needed. He also helped us with picking the contractor for the remodeling of the house and the contractor for the pool. Currently, we are living in a townhouse while the construction is progressing in accordance with the time schedule agreed to. We are adding a new roof, windows, flooring through the house. Having vetted a number of local architects, we chose Eric to design plans for our extensive home renovation based on his educational background, years of experience, professionalism and accommodating personality. This was our first experience with a renovation and Eric was very patient with our many questions and changes due to the "creative process". We have found Eric to be a talented designer with creative ideas, extremely easy to work with, always responsive. Eric has undertaken the renovation of a historic home (1800's) which we recently purchased. It was in serious disrepair. He has done an extensive design based on our request to retain as much as possible of the original character and construction while bringing it up to date and also significantly enlarging the footprint/square footage. In addition to architectural design, he is also managing the entire project - hiring contractors and tradesman, including a pool addition and new landscaping, and assisting us with selection of materials/products. While the house will not be finished for a number of months (into 2020), we are very happy with the renovation of the cottage on the property which has just been completed. With our 4-month home renovation project just finished, we are so glad we chose Eric Baker as our architect. We hired Eric Baker Architects to re-visualize our home from a seventy’s look to a more open concept interior and exterior vibe. There are always going to be unforeseen challenges with any construction project. They key for us was having a partner in Eric throughout the process to help us and the builder work through those challenges. It is also critical that your architect can present to any town planning board, zoning board or architectural review board in a clear and convincing way. Eric did all of that for us. We needed a variance, he got it. We needed approval for code challenges, he got that too. But at the end of the day, he designed a beautiful home, with many creative "wow" factors that didn't blow the budget.
