Kate Cowing, AIA, principal of Kate Cowing Architect, LLC firmly believes in the saying that “the greenest building is an existing building”. She has dedicated her practice to the restoration and reuse of existing buildings, whether historic or just simply old. Unlike many architects who prefer a blank slate, Kate’s imagination is inspired by the character of existing buildings. With her keen sense of design, she plays off of, and maintains, this essential character. After 25 years of experience, Kate’s projects have included the restoration of historic buildings, the renovations of tiny rowhouses, universal design upgrades, additions and alterations to residences, and even the restoration of a family mausoleum. Kate works closely with her clients and sincerely enjoys helping them with the transformation of their home to meet their needs and their dreams.
