I would highly recommend STS for excellent work and a great working relationship with a contractor. Not only is their work top notch, but they are easy to work with, and in our situation of having to live in the house while the work was going on, very accommodating about scheduling work when it was convenient for us. Real down-to-earth honest guys who just get things done, always respond when you need, get good subcontractors, and treat your project as important no matter how small the issue. We are thrilled with our addition and garden house and are continuing to use STS!

This project was a very complicated one for its type, involving the replacement of a deck 12 feet above grade. The engineering required a contractor with a lot of experience in order to properly execute the drawings. I have done business with Smith, Thomas for 30 years. They are highly professional, very straightforward, always do what they say they are going to do, and stand behind their work and their subcontractors' work whenever an issue arises.

Smith Thomas & Smith, Inc. has provided us with a comprehensive range of services including the repair of the roof around a skylight, the installation of a new attic ladder, and the complete renovation of our kitchen. In each instance, what stood out was their thorough review of the problem or situation and their ability to explain fairly the breadth and detail of the work needed or the options available. In all of our experiences, the workmanship was of high quality, the project area was always clean, and the workman were able to make common sense suggestions regarding any contingencies. Smith, Thomas worked with us on two extensive repair projects when our house was hit by falling oak trees after storms in 2011 and 2012. They were thorough, highly cooperative, a pleasure to work with and both "on time and on budget". The professionalism of each member of the Smith, Thomas team was exemplary, even courageous in the early stages of getting the trees off the house, re-establishing safe occupancy and initial repairs. Both projects were complicated and tricky in our 1908 home. To the extent that such adventures are ever a positive experience, the work of Smith, Thomas made it so.

Since then they have taken care of emergencies and found craftspeople to do custom work for us. They are unfailingly courteous and remarkably efficient. They are knowledgable. We have worked with Smith Thomas & Smith since 1998 on three different home projects in Washington DC. There have been multiple projects on each of the three houses with the latest being the total re-furbishment of a Georgetown row house that was built in the 1850s. They communicate extremely effectively before the work is done and then while the work is being done. Our daughter recently bought her first home in DC and she has used them as well.

Their team from the office staff to carpenters to general maintenance help, all do an outstanding job. STS repaired a broken downspout and cleaned and/or repaired various gutters and pipes (our basement was flooded from water that was pouring into the house from the broken pipe). They were efficient, effective and a pleasure to deal with. They arrived the afternoon after my morning call and had the problems fixed by the next day. I highly recommend STS.
