“Carl Mattison Design is truly a full service design house. Carl met with my husband and I a few months prior to begining our kitchen and bath remodel project. He helped us to think through many different options for our space. He was very creative and came up with a design proposal which utilized our kitchen space in a way we had never considered. At first we were hesitant to make such a dramatic change in our almost 100 year old house, but ultimately we selected this design- dubbed "The Ultimate" and we could not be happier! We discussed budget with Carl at the onset of this project and he never lost sight of that parameter. When my husband and I decided to increase our budget, Carl was the one who keep us realistic and worked to help keep cost down. In a house as old as ours it's not surprising that quirks and problems arose. He also made himself available to our contractor which made the process smoother when quick decisions or details were needed. “Mary Jo was a Godsend to us. When we first contacted her for our full basement renovation including the addition of a bedroom and bathroom, we were under an extremely short timeline. Although I knew making decisions in a short timeframe was far less than an ideal situation, she swooped in and came to our rescue! Her calm and professional approach and valuable input allowed us to efficiently make important and time-sensitive decisions about our remodel including paint color, tile and bathroom hardware selections. She delivered her expert opinions to us in a direct yet flexible manner and worked with our contractor in an extremely respectful and collaborative fashion. Despite the time crunch, she took the time to learn about our preferences and personal style and then made targeted recommendations to us. She was quick-to-respond to all our follow-up questions even after the 2 hour consult and was very generous with her time to help us finalize our selections. Our project was much-improved as a result of her expertise and targeted input and now that the construction work is done, I can see that our favorite aspects of the end product resulted from her direct influence. We recently started phase two of this project including seeking her guidance on furniture selections and placement and recommendations on things like carpets and window treatments. Now that we are able to work with Mary Jo at a more relaxed pace, we are really benefitting from her deep knowledge and expert input. Her “rules of thumb” are helping to determine the optimal furniture placement. When it comes to picking out rugs, window treatments and things like that, since she already learned our personal style, she is able to make targeted recommendations that really make the selection process easy for us. She has great attention to detail with all aspects including appliance dimensions, placement & appearance. For example, we wanted a warming drawer & thought we wanted it underneath the oven as so many have. She recommended that we have it next to the cooktop for convenience & my husband, the cook, absolutely agrees that it is much more convenient here.
