6,306 Traditional Powder Room Design Photos

Even though a powder room is one of the simplest spaces in the house, its placement near the kitchen or living room makes it one of the most frequently used. Also known as a half bath, this space contains only a toilet and sink and is often on the main floor for guests to use when visiting. Despite being fairly basic, you can easily make this small bathroom interesting by incorporating a unique bathroom vanity or sink, a variety of materials and fun decor. More

Designed by Cameron Snyder, CKD and Julie Lyons. Removing the former wall between the kitchen and dining room to create an open floor plan meant the former powder room tucked in a corner needed to be relocated. Cameron designed a 7' by 6' space framed with curved wall in the middle of the new space to locate the new powder room and it became an instant focal point perfectly lo...More

What materials should I use in my powder room?

It's great to experiment with different materials, but beware of overkill here. A half bath is so small that too many patterns and textures can quickly overwhelm the space. When picking out your traditional materials, avoid combining multiple statement pieces; for example, a bold mosaic tile backsplash and a patterned tile floor can cause a disjointed, choppy design. Instead, pick one statement element, like a fun backsplash, countertop or vanity, and opt for subtle materials, like stone, marble or granite, for the rest.

How do I decorate my powder room?

Similar to materials, avoid a kitschy final product by keeping colors and decor fairly low key. Opt for a subtle wall color and add hints of personality with traditional wall art, towels and bath accessories. Try to incorporate one or two fun elements, like an oversized sink, funky mirror or dramatic ceiling light. And don't forget about the hardware! In such a tight spot, cabinet pulls and faucets can truly make a difference.
