Overplanned and undermanned.

Boy am I tired!

I had a plan to strip out the piece of land between my porch and the fence, as it's the only part of my lawn that gets full sun. We're talking roughly 3.5'X18'. I envisioned some corn and winter squash, and maybe a bush-type melon going into this space. So I got my shovel, my hoe, and my gloves, and set to work.

Well, two hours of backbreaking labor and one pair of shorts full of sand later, I have one tiny 3 foot patch torn up. I think I'm just going to plant some corn and call it even.

Breaking new gound is the hardest part for sure but it'll be easier to work the same ground in coming years. I'm aching today from putting in the early crops over the weekend, but it's a good kind of ache :)

That's a good way to look at it. I scraped up the energy to dig up two spots for melons. Whew!
