Can I just rant for a minute about those awful moths???? I was vigilant about watching for them and using Sevin dust. But they got into the plants anyway. This morning, I was outside with a sharp knife performing surgery on my big, beautiful, luscious squash plants and trying to pull out all the grubs. Maybe they'll live. My Kindergartner planted that squash and she will be crushed if they die. Her Daddy helped her plant them right before he left for Iraq. Oh, how I hate those horrible bugs!!!! :(

I hear that light blue foil around the base helps keep them away. Says they think it is the sky and won't land. Never tried it so that is all I know. Had to just plant winter squash down this way as all my bush squash weren't kill off by that wonderful moth.

Supposedly garlic powder helps too as does sprinkling onion peels and pieces all around the stem. I just row covered mine and guess what....yep, found a moth under the row cover. I can't figure out how it got in, but I checked for eggs and there weren't any. And I killed that awful thing.
