Water hyacinth and koi

I just received three water hyacinths today ordered off of ebay 3-5" width. well while i was waiting for them to come in the mail my husband surprised me with my first koi i think its a butterfly koi and its only about six inches long the rest of my fish are goldfish. Anyway my husband was excited to give him to me but im worried he will eat up my hyacinth plants. Is one koi enough to destroy all three plants? Or will they recover quicker than he can nibble them? Thanks for any help in advance!

One is enough to do damage. If you could make a floating ring with netting on it, you could float the WH's in that and the koi wouldn't do enough damage.

I've had WH together with water lettuce in my pond and they do great along with up to 2 kio perhaps twice the size of yours. While the fish may be eating the plants the don't damage them in any noticeable way. Lots of plants + fish = no algae blooms.

However, the fishies DO uproot my water lily.
