No, 92F is fine. I've tried germinating seeds up to a constant 36C (roughly 97F) and they actually came out faster. The seeds do have to be covered by about half a centimeter of soil and/or sand (about an eighth of an inch?).

In your soil-free mix, you should make sure the seeds and later, seedlings, are consistently moist. They are thirsty things when that young and dry out very quickly.

Here's two pictures of my little contraption. I just have to share, I think my husband did a pretty good job. It's a bit different than a heat mat, and it will be interesting to see if it works. I've got it on the living room floor, but will move it to my light stand if I get any sprouts.

The top isn't glued on, I can remove it or leave it cracked to vent extra heat. You can see the night light and he also lined the box with aluminum foil for more heat.

Got my first sprout poking through the dirt this morning! Three and a half days, not bad. I was beginning to worry I might have old seeds. :-)
