zonal denial- the other direction

Zonal denial usually refers to gardeners trying to grow plants that are too tender for their climate zone, but I often long for plants that can't take the heat and lack of winter chill. I picked up some rare plants at Collector's Nursery in Washington last fall, since she was going out of business and letting things go cheap. Much to my delight, this spring I have some things that shouldn't even THINK about life in the Central Valley. While it's doubtful they will survive the summer, I'm enjoying them now. A few pictures:

And here's my great triumph, a thriving colony of lily of the valley, which is spreading thru the cracks of my flagstone walkway. While it is not evergreen, and acts like a spring bulb, drying up when it gets hot, it comes back bigger and better every year.
