Hey there!
Can anyone who grows or sees one regularly tell me what an expected mature size for Leucadendron discolor 'Pom Pom' is? I'm in Santa Monica so I'm hoping someone else in similar conditions has tried it. I can put it in one of two spots that are both very low in phosphorus and fairly well suited for Leucadendron or other Proteaceae. The tag and most sites say it should top out at 7' x 5', but I'm often skeptical of some of the projections.
One spot would comfortably allow for 10' x10' if it's a larger cultivar, the other would be fine for any height up to 8' and about 5' wide/deep. I would prefer to put it in the smaller of the two spots for aesthetic reasons, but I don't want to put it somewhere it will outgrow.
Is it receptive to pruning or shaping a bit smaller? I've seen some very large plants of 'Ebony' and 'Safari Sunset', but very manageable 'Jesters,' 'Blush's, and 'Golden Tip's. I can't recall seeing a L. discolor 'Pom Pom' in a landscape around here. Any help is appreciated!
